La Châtre is a medieval town that is simple lovely.
The approaches are a little bit industrial (as seem to be for most
sizeable towns), but the town centre is everything you would expect from
a French town. There is a superb weekly market held on Saturday mornings
which can be enhanced by a drink in the café du commerce situated in the
corner of the market square – particularly in warm weather where the
tables and chairs are set out on the pavement. You can sit and watch the
world go by over a cup of coffee or a kir (a speciality of the region is
kir berrichone – that’s crème du cassis with red wine – very tasty!).
There’s plenty more to be said about La Chatre, but that will be done on
it’s own page soon, along with as many other towns as I can get
information on. Keep checking the buttons on the left.
